What exactly would a “Nashville-ized citizen” be? In John Dotson’s case it’s someone who moved to Nashville as a child with the family. Originally from Oklahoma he came to Tennessee via Minnesota. John’s dad was a singer. When he got a record deal and they came to Nashville to pursue the dream. Although his dad didn’t find the success he’d hoped for, it put John on the track of his own career in the music business. He attended Bellevue High School and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) before embarking on a three-decade career at CBS, RCA and Arista Records; the William Morris Agency, Agency for The Performing Arts, including 15 years in artist management at the company representing Alabama, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and Neil Diamond. He managed Steve Earle, Ricky Van Shelton, Confederate Railroad and Ray Kennedy. As music biz era came to a close he decided the field that offered the most opportunity to transfer the skill-set he had honed was real estate.
John got his real estate license in 2005 and earned his Broker’s license in 2015. He has since enhanced that significant level of education with the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR); Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI), e-Pro, SRES (Senior Real Estate Specialist), NRES (Neighborhood Real Estate Specialist), AHWD (At Home With Diversity) and LRS (LeadingRE Relocation Specialist) certifications. For five years he and his life mate, Marsha Mauney, represented Fannie Mae properties which was an education all its own. .
John is on the Board of Greater Nashville Realtors as well as the Legislative and Habitat for Humanity Committees and the board of The Fountains of Musica. Music Row is never far from his mind. He was the VP of the Music Industry Coalition (MIC) and he founded the Music Row Neighborhood Association (MRNA). He was deeply involved with the construction and approval of the Music Row Vision Plan. He was recently a member of the Metro Short Term Rental Task Group.
Coming to Parks in July 2016 from Zeitlin, John operates in the Green Hills office when he’s not in his car. He lived for 15 years in the Richland neighborhood of Nashville with life mate of 23 years, Marsha Mauney, who is a Realtor with in the Parks West office. They now live in West Meade and have two dogs, Lucci and Zoey. They also operate a short-term rental in Nashville and tiny home STR in Monteagle.
