While it feels impossible to sample all that the mouth-watering, creative, and inspiring bakeries in Middle Tennessee have to offer – cheers to trying. We hope your February is full of sweet things, and visiting a Middle Tennessee bakery, or two (or five).

Julia’s Homestyle Bakery

1911 Medical Center Pkwy #B
Murfreesboro

Trust us, whatever you end up leaving Julia’s Homestyle Bakery with in their signature pink box is bound to be delectable. Filled with bright, colorful, perfectly decorated cakes, cookies and other goodies, this bakery is known for their custom designed cakes but loved for all. Bonus? They are able to make most treats Gluten free and have “The Sweet Truck” for special private and community events.

Anne’s Cakes

4825 Trousdale Dr. #232
Nashville

So yes, the “cakes” are amazing (especially the truly, beautiful strawberry cake) … but with many, many types of the most perfect muffins you could ever sink your teeth into, who needs more? Anne’s most popular item is their Skinny Chocolate Chip Pumpkin muffin and all their baked goods are made with all natural ingredients and no preservatives added. Anne’s Cakes are baked out of a commercial kitchen in Creighton Hall and can be ordered or bought at Produce Place or Sperry’s.

Baked in Nashville

Pickup/Online/Delivery
Brentwood

The Baked in Nashville two woman powerhouse does three things, and three things very well: custom cakes, sugar cookies and french macarons. (Hint: They will look as perfect as they taste). The custom cakes are a Nashville bride favorite, the cookies are popular to say the least (10,000 cookies ordered last year, alone), and the french macarons are an elegant, naturally gluten free treat. All deliciousness is by order only and can be picked up at the Nippers Corner Starbucks or special delivery for a fee.

Sweet Bakes Donuts & Cakes

307 W 11th St.
Columbia

Yes, Sweet Bakes did indeed start out of the most perfect ‘74 turquoise Lincraft Camper you ever did see at the Columbia Farmers Market. Now, with a more “permanent” home in the new Columbia Arts Building, Sweet Bakes is cranking out their artisan (aka: “to-die-for”) donuts and cakes. With donut flavors ranging from a simple cinnamon sugar, to s’mores, maple bacon and tiramisu; we promise you, everyone in your crowd WILL be pleased.

Five Daughters Bakery

Multiple Locations
Nashville | Franklin

With their Instagram presence almost as impressive as their famous 100 layer donuts, Five Daughters Bakery has become a Nashville destination. Created by two foodies from Brooklyn and named for their five young daughters, this bakery has a mouth-watering monthly donut selection, only uses locally sourced, natural ingredients and has plenty of options for paleo or vegan donut lovers, alike. (P.S. Their 100 layer donuts are a cross between a croissant and a donut, and can take up to three days to craft).

Baked on 8th

1512 8th Ave S.
Nashville

Baked on 8th prides itself on not having a set menu, but tries to keep their favorites in stock. (And favorites, there are). While their decorated iced sugar cookies are honestly almost too cute to eat (think: unicorns, lamas, champagne bottles, etc.), their giant cake slices and chocolate chip cookies are some of the most talked about deliciousness that can be enjoyed in this crisp, clean bakery on 8th.

Short Cakes Cakery

4037 N Mt Juliet Rd
Mt Juliet

As one of Nashville’s favorite “pre-order only” bakery, Short Cakes Cakery is loved for their “perfect amount of frosting” cupcakes, their beautiful cakes, friendly service … and not to mention breakfast items! When it comes to favorites, the crowd spoke and … it looks like there is NOT just one favorite. To help you narrow it down, try the Pecan Pie Cupcake, now that is a treat you can’t pass up.

Oh Crumbs Bakery

Online/Appointment Only
Lebanon

With a long list of awards and a trained scientist (we’re talking PhD from Yale), turned baker, Oh Crumbs is like a “lab” of cake perfection. Running solely off of wedding and special orders, it’s not just your “order online” type of place. They do a special consultation to harness the essence of the exact taste and design you are looking for. (Fingers crosses a creation of Oh Crumbs is at the next wedding we attend!)

Simply Pure Sweets

118 N Walnut St.
Murfreesboro

Daily lunch starting at 10:30am with sandwiches served on homemade bread? Yes, please. The best part? Picking up a little dessert on the way out is completely acceptable. Simply Pure Sweets is an approachable, wide selection bakery that not only helps your sweet tooth stay happy but gives you the option of an amazing lunch, as well.

Sweet 16th Bakery

311 N 16th St.
Nashville

Sweet 16th feels like your favorite neighbor that bakes your favorite cookies and casseroles … nonstop. As a small corner shop in east Nashville, this bakery is known for both their desserts and breakfast/lunch favorites. Try their famous egg and cheese biscuit sandwich (the most perfectly baked biscuit you will ever have), and their brookie (half cookie and half brownie). Warning: Get there early because they do sell out!
