2020 is here and it's the start of a new decade! Let this month of resolutions, motivation, and new beginnings commence. The Nashville Boat Show is back, as are other local favorites such as Brentwood's Marshmallow Hike and Nashville Restaurant Week. New events are always popping up so make sure to mark your calendars and prepare yourself for a whole lot of fun!
January 1st: 157th Anniversary of the Battle of Stones River
Stones River National Battlefield | Murfreesboro
Take a trip back in time and learn about the quiet, yet critical, events of New Year's Day that shaped the outcome of the Battle of Stones River! Visitors will also learn about how the Battle of Stones River provided a victory to support the Emancipation Proclamation and how it shaped the outcome and aftermath of our Civil War, as well as the story of William Holland's transformation from slave to property owner. After those discussions, visitors will take a walk through the heart of the battlefield and learn about the Freedmen's Community that emerged there as a result of the "new birth of freedom" that grew out of the Civil War.
January 2nd-4th & 11th: Marshmallow Hike
Owl's Hill | Brentwood
Looking for something to do with friend and family or an excuse to get out of the house by yourself? How does a nice hike in the winter woods followed by hot chocolate and roasted marshmallows sound? Take a visit to Owl's Hill for the annual Marshmallow and Hot Chocolate Hikes. This is the perfect way to get your fix of the outdoors and satisfy your craving for some classic hot chocolate.
January 3rd-5th: Winter Market
Nashville Farmers Market | Nashville
Nashville's Winter Market features farmers, artisans, and vendors selling pasture-raised meats, eggs, milk, cheese, lettuce, greens, winter produce, honey, mushrooms, baked goods, artisan foods, arts and crafts, body care products, jewelry, clothing and more! In addition, visitors will also find food trucks, plus the usual array of international eateries and shops in the Market House. Go out and support local!
January 4th-5th: BrickUniverse Nashville Lego Fan Expo
Wilson County Expo Center | Lebanon
Join thousands of LEGO fans as they meet up for the BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention! This convention brings it all with LEGO displays, art, building zones, special guests, merchants, experiences, and so much more. January 4th-5th: Monster Jam
Bridgestone Arena | Nashville
Monster Jam is the most action-packed live event on four wheels where world-class drivers compete in front of crowds around the globe! January 7th: Drumline (LIVE)
Schermerhorn Symphony Center | Nashville
Drumline returns for a night of bold beats and riveting rhythms! This internationally acclaimed sensation brings the explosive energy and athleticism of HBCU marching bands to the stage in a show unlike any other. Trained in band programs across the South, the cast mixes original compositions and top 40 songs in amazing choreographed routines, with drum riffs and cadences that will have you out of your seat and dancing all night long! You don't want to miss this!
January 9th-12th: Nashville Boat Show
Music City Center | Nashville
The Progressive Insurance Nashville Boat Show is Tennessee’s largest boating event! This is a one-stop-shop for getting ready for fun on the water with deals on more than 300 boats, fishing and boating educational opportunities, the latest in marine technologies and outdoor accessories, and fun for the whole family. Now in its 34th year, the show is a destination for boating enthusiasts of all ages, budgets, and experience levels! Guests will also have the opportunity to board and buy the newest boats, watch fishing demonstrations indoors, brush up on skills, and much more.
January 17th: Winterfest Beer Blast
Westbury House | Columbia
Winterfest Beer Blast is a casual beer tasting event featuring craft and unique beers! There will be tons of snacks provided throughout the event and beers will be offered from local brewers, brewers from across the state, and distributors providing their tastiest beers and spirits. Later in the evening, a massive pizza delivery will arrive! Snacks and your favorite brews, what more can you ask for?
January 18th: Long Hunters of Tennessee
Bledsoe Creek State Park | Gallatin
In the 18th-century, long hunters were hunters who made expeditions into the American frontier wilderness in search of fur and hides. These hunters played a vital part in the expansion of a very young America. With the simple goal of making a profit off deer skin and other furs, while avoiding contact with the native people, they were successful in their ventures. Ever wondered what it would be like as a long hunter on the Tennessee Frontier? Join the Middle Tennessee History Coalition and experience live demonstrations of skills in a recreation of a Long Hunter Camp.
January 20th-26th: Nashville Restaurant Week
Throughout Music City | Nashville
The Nashville Originals are local restaurateurs dedicated to sustaining the independent restaurant as a fixture of Nashville’s culture and community. These restaurants have joined together to increase the visibility and viability of locally-owned restaurants, so they can continue to exercise their individual creativity and style. What and where Nashvillians eat helps define our city! These home-grown restaurants lead the way in Nashville’s future development. Plan to be hungry this week because you'll have the opportunity to taste some of the best local eats that Nashville has to offer!
