5 Easy Ways to Stay Cool and Safe in the Hot Summer Heat
The hot weather is finally here! This week alone is supposed to be upwards of 90 degrees at some points. Naturally, you’ll want to spend time with family and friends enjoying the beautiful Middle Tennessee outdoors and upcoming events. However, if you’re not careful, you could end up overheated and plagued with awful sunburn. Use these tips to stay cool in the summer heat.
Hydrate!
This may seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised how many people completely forget to drink water and other healthy liquids on hot days. When spending a day at the beach or going hiking, always bring enough water for the day. Remember, soda and other sugary drinks are not a good substitution for water on scorching hot days.
Work Out in the Early Morning or Late Evening
If you enjoy running, hiking, biking, or exercising outdoors, try to do so during the early morning or late evening hours. The temperature during this time will not be unbearable and you can get your maximum exercise while enjoying the weather and staying cool.
Frequent Healthy Snacks
There’s a reason we eat lighter types of food during the summer — it keeps us cooler and healthier. Remember to choose foods such as fruit and vegetables for the best results and a great summer!
Don’t Forget the Sunscreen
No one enjoys a blistering sunburn. Remember to apply sunscreen before going outside for long periods of time. Don’t forget to use sunscreens with a higher SPF to protect your children!
Wear Loose Fitting, Light Colored Clothing
If you’re going to an outdoor concert or festival, don’t wear a sweatshirt or long-sleeved shirt if it’s in the upper 90s. Along the same lines, don’t wear skin tight clothing either. Loose fitting clothing allows for air circulation, keeping you cool at all times.
How do you beat the heat during Middle Tennessee’s hot summer weather?
