4 Home Maintenance Tips for the Month of February

The Groundhog has made his decision, and it looks like once again we’ll be facing several more weeks of winter. But that’s okay; it gives you more time to get prepared for spring cleaning and whatever else 2015 has in store for you and your family. While you’re waiting for warmer weather, be sure to use this home maintenance tips during the chilly month of February.

Start Organizing Your Home for Spring Cleaning

Depending on how messy your home currently is, spring cleaning may be a hassle for you. Instead of dreading your spring-cleaning activities, use the month of February to get prepared. Organizing all of your cleaning supplies and drafting a cleaning schedule prior to spring will help you tackle your spring cleaning responsibilities in 2015. Plus, by having a cleaning schedule, you won’t feel overwhelmed when tidying up your Middle Tennessee home.

Check Those HVAC Filters!

Your heating and cooling system is an integral part of your home. With that said, you need to take care of it each year, and not just for your home but also for your health. Clogged up heating and cooling filters will allow particles of dust, dirt and other atrocities into your air, and you don’t want to breathe that in all year. Replace your HVAC filters this February and breathe in clean air in 2015.

Also, be sure to schedule an appointment with your local HVAC company and have your system inspected. If you’re looking to lower your monthly energy bills, your HVAC system needs to be running in tiptop shape.

Clean Out Your Gutters

With all of the crazy wind Middle Tennessee has been experiencing all winter long, your gutters are most likely filled to the brim. During the month of February, take time out of your busy schedule to clear out your gutters. By allowing your gutters to become clogged, you are jeopardizing the integrity and purpose of your gutters. Overflowing gutters are known to damage roofs and the exteriors of homes, so be sure to get outside in February and take the debris out of your gutters.

Organize and Clean Major Storage Areas

Throughout the year, you will need your closets, garage, and basement to store various items and appliances. However, if your storage areas are completely filled, good luck! Spend part of February organizing and clearing out your garage, closet and/or basement to make room for other items 2015.
