4 Spring Gardening and Landscaping Tips You Can Do Today

It’s finally starting to feel like spring in Middle Tennessee. If you’re like most people, you are probably dying to get outside and enjoy the warm, beautiful weather. While you’re outside, why not get some gardening and landscaping projects done? The weather is great and you can get a head start on your gardening; it’s a win-win situation!

Try out these simple gardening and landscaping tips and ideas this spring.

Spruce Up Your Lawn First

The winter weather most likely left quite a bit of twigs, leaves and other types of outdoor debris strewn across your lawn. Before you dive head first into your gardening projects, be sure to pick up any sticks and leaves scattered about your lawn. In fact, you can use a wood chipper or shredder to turn those sticks and leaves into mulch and/or compost for your garden.

Don’t forget to clear out your garden as well. Leaves, weeds, and sticks love to hide in and around your garden during the winter season.

Find Dry Spots Around Your Lawn

The winter weather can be harsh on a residential lawn. Take time to walk around your lawn and note any dead or dry areas that will need more fertilizer or other treatment. Keep in mind, if you’re not confident determining which areas need regrowth and revitalization, you can always call your local landscaping company. Middle Tennessee is full of great landscapers!

Determine Which Flowers and Plants You’ll Use This Year

This is quite possibly the most exciting part of gardening! From the state flower, the Iris, to a plethora of shrubbery, you’ll have an expansive selection to choose from. Many Tennessee homeowners enjoy the following plants and flowers in their garden:

  • Irises
  • Coneflowers
  • Mums
  • Pansies
  • Black-eyed Susan
