August Events in Middle Tennessee

The summer is winding down and the kids will be heading back to school before you know it. Make the most of the next few weekends with one of our event suggestions this August! From fairs to festivals and concerts to theatrical performances, there’s something going on in Middle Tennessee that everyone can enjoy!

August 4-12: Williamson County Fair

Williamson County Ag Expo Park

Fair season has officially kicked off! Enjoy agricultural themed activities, your favorite midway rides, and some delicious fried-to-perfection foods during a day at the fair. This year’s theme is “Country Pride County Wide”.

August 5 – September 15 (Saturdays): Musician’s Corner
Centennial Park | Nashville

Musician’s Corner is back for its second round this summer with seven more Saturdays of free music. The lineup is set to be announced soon, but if it’s anything like this Spring’s lineup, it’s sure to please. The events are always family and pet-friendly, so bring the whole crew.

August 10, 17, 24, & August 31 – September 2: Live on the Green
Public Square Park | Nashville

The popularity of Live on the Green is ever growing as well known artists fill the bill of the free music event. Taking place on three consecutive Thursdays in August, followed by a three-night wrap up over Labor Day weekend. This year’s lineup includes Sheryl Crow, Portugal. the Man, Spoon, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and the Delta Saints. And these are just a few of the acts you should be sure to not miss!

August 10 – September 17, Thursdays – Sundays only, plus Labor Day: Shakespeare in the Park
Centennial Park Band Shell | Nashville

For some classic culture, make plans to attend one or both of this year’s Shakespeare in the Park productions. Putting a unique spin on the plays to make them relevant to modern times, the non-profit theater company attracts large audiences each year. This year’s lineup includes The Winter’s Tale and Antony and Cleopatra. Those in the know recommend arriving at 6:00 to get a good spot, then enjoying some fare from the food trucks and vendors before the pre-show entertainment begins at 6:30.

August 11-12: Tomato Art Festival
East Nashville’s Five Points

In its 14th year, the Tomato Art Festival combines a parade, live music, tomato-themed art, a cornhole tournament, games, contests, and of course, tomato-centric food and beverages.

August 18-21: Italian Lights Festival
Bicentennial Mall | Nashville

Celebrate your love for all things Italian at this favorite annual festival. Events include wine tastings and seminars, a bocce ball tournament, a meatball eating or grape stomping contests, live music, and craft and food vendors. The hosts are also taking advantage of this year’s solar eclipse and are adding some special eclipse day events and activities.

August 19: Oz Family Day
Oz Arts Nashville

This fun annual family event picks a theme each year to focus on, this year’s being “art in sports”. Guests can participate in indoor and outdoor art related activities, enjoy interactive art installations and activity stations, and check out the pop-up skate park and BMX stunt show.

August 21: Total Solar Eclipse
Various Locations Across Middle Tennessee

A few select towns in Middle Tennessee are lucky to be in the thin path of totality of the August 21st total solar eclipse where the moon will completely cover the sun. This eclipse will allow viewers to see the sun’s corona – or atmosphere – and will very quickly bring temperatures here on Earth down. The eclipse begins in Nashville at 11:58 am, reaches totality from 1:27 – 1:29 pm, and ends at 2:54 pm. Schedule your lunch break accordingly and be sure to wear protective eyewear (not just sunglasses)!

August 26: The Great Americana BBQ Festival
Harlinsdale Farms | Franklin

This is the inaugural year for the Great American BBQ Festival, an event that is sure to be a fan favorite for years to come. Patrons will not only enjoy barbecue and Americana music wafting through the air, but can also enjoy craft beer or bourbon with an upgraded ticket. There will also be craft vendors, a kid’s zone, and a variety of food vendors if you’re one of the few people in Tennessee that don’t love barbecue.

August 26: Chukkers for Charity
Riverview Farm | Franklin

Ever wanted to watch a polo match? Here’s your chance! The event also includes stick horse races for the kids, stomping of the divots, and a car show at halftime. Last year the event was named one of nFocus’ Best Parties, and best of all, the proceeds benefit the Rochelle Center which supports people with disabilities.
