Southwest of downtown Nashville, you can find Vanderbilt and Hillsboro Village, one of the top universities in the nation and one of Nashville’s most popular neighborhoods. Watch our Local’s Guide to Vanderbilt & Hillsboro Village video to take a look at these wonderful neighborhoods!
Nashville is home to many prominent college campuses, but none more so than Vanderbilt University. The area surrounding the campus hums with activity both from the coeds that chose the area for school and from locals who have called the area home for decades.
Vanderbilt University attracts students from around the world for its array of programs, with science, engineering, and law being the most sought after. The 330-acre campus feels like an Ivy League school from the northeast, and with over 190 tree and shrub species, serves as an arboretum.
Visit during nearly any time of year and you’ll find Vandy fans enjoying a game. The SEC school has a team for nearly every sport, and fans particularly love rooting them on in basketball, baseball, and football. Just across the street, the Vanderbilt University Medical Center is one of the top hospitals in the region and employs nearly 20,000 people.
South of Vanderbilt, Hillsboro Village is another thriving neighborhood with great walkability. Here you’ll find lots of amazing dining options, including locally renowned Pancake Pantry, which usually has a line out the door, and the Grilled Cheeserie, a popular Nashville food truck, which opened a first of its kind Melt Shop in Hillsboro Village.
The area also has funky shops for perusing, or wander to the Belcourt Theatre, a restored movie theater that shows both new and independent films.
You’ll find an eclectic mix of residents including college students, young professionals, musicians, and families. Winding through area streets you’ll find beautifully maintained cottages and Tudor style homes. If you’re looking for low-maintenance urban living, there are plenty of townhomes and condominiums to choose from. Come take a stroll along the beautiful streets that wind through Vanderbilt and Hillsboro Village and see if it’s a place you’d like to call home as well.
