Unique Ways to Decorate for Halloween

Halloween is a holiday that screams (pun intended), for decorations. With no rules or need for any type of “must-do” traditions, Halloween is the type of holiday that gives room for limitless creativity. Pick a theme, get colorful, artsy, silly – whatever your style may be – and have fun with it! Here are a few of our favorite ideas this time around:

Get Colorful

If you love color, don’t let the traditional colors of Halloween stop you. Have fun with it! Pick a color palette that adds a little oomph to the traditional orange and black – what about off-white, orange and gray for your porch colors, and don’t forget those yellow mums! For the ultimate color lovers, try painting mini pumpkins different colors of the rainbow and line them up in order to create a beautiful, eye-popping display of rainbow pumpkins.

Paint It Black

There’s something to be said about the darkness of Halloween night … and of course, the excuse to go “all-out” with a can of black spray paint to turn ordinary objects into delightfully matte black Halloween creations. Take small wooden homes from a craft store and paint black for the cutest, spookiest “ghost town” you ever did see. Similarly: Look in clearance sections for fake potted plants to entirely cover in black spray paint (don’t forget black sand for the dirt!), for some eerie, yet highly stylized blackened plants or a faux floral wreath. Love the black, but hate the paint? Opt for a simple, black paper garland.

Get Artsy

For those of us that need a little art in everything we do, use Halloween as an excuse to create artfully spooky vignettes around your house. Create an apothecary scene by combining glass bottles of different shapes and sizes. You can play around with what you want in the bottles (if anything) and what kind of labels you want on them. Another idea with an artsy feel is to create haunted terrariums. Bonus? Make some DIY haunted mirrors and replace painting and mirrors in your home.

Get Silly With It

There’s nothing that says Halloween can’t be as silly as it is scary! Take the opportunity to have fun with it and do things you would never normally do! Take it from these bloggers, and do the adorable “fill up your fireplace eyeballs” DIY by using googly eye balloons or warning people of the black flamingos in your lawn. Also – how cute is having giant googly eyes on your front door?

Let It All Hang Out

There is something magical, and oh-so-Halloween about things mysteriously hanging in thin air, and thanks to creatives everywhere, there are some great inspirations for this aesthetic. For an amazing dinner party decor, try a broom chandelier above the table, and a spooky gallery wall. To be the most sought after trick or treating porch, create your own witches hat luminaries.
