The Christmas Village is a weekend event that features several hundred booths of artisans and merchants from all over. According to the website, “a variety of unique seasonal and gift items are offered, including: toys for all ages, clothing for children and adults, jewelry, food items, pottery, collectibles and unusual pieces for the ‘person who has everything’.”

General admission is $10 (children 9 and under free), and tickets may be used any one day out of the Friday-Sunday weekend.

It’s one of the oldest charitable events in Nashville (52 years!) In the debut year of 1961, they raised $1000 dollars. Last year, with the help of over 200 volunteers, $8.5 million in donations went to charities all over the city.

Salvaging from a home remodel can be a fun project!  For a fraction of the cost of a new remodel, you can get gently used kitchen cabinets, doors, windows, counter tops, reclaimed wood, light fixture, etc. Let’s face it, eventually everything old is new again.  We all know that tastes, trends and what’s in is cyclical.  Old things have a way of becoming “retro” or “cool” if you just give it enough time. – I’ve been looking around to find places in Middle Tennessee that offer salvaged home items.  Here’s what I found and I’d be interested in any places you all know of that didn’t make my list! – – – Craig’s List – Craig’s List is a great place for finding recycled home materials, reclaimed wood, doors, windows, etc.  Many people who are…

The television show Nashville, despite some sagging ratings this season, has shined a spotlight on its namesake city as the new hot tourist destination. So, of course, several other TV networks have decided to jump on that momentum – with six new reality shows depicting the Nashville area and its high-profile residents.

 Thicker than Water

Thicker Than Water follows gospel jazz musician Ben Tankard and his family. Interestingly, this won’t take place in Nashville but in Murfreesboro, where they live in a three-story extravagant mansion. According to the man himself, this show will portray the area well – and who knows? Maybe tourists flying in to see Nashville will start making side trips to the ‘Boro.

I just joined Pinterest because I felt internal pressure to participate in this odd phenomenon known as “pinning”.  I actually had to read the Wikipedia page so I could gain a basic understanding of Pinterest (yeah, I admit it).

Do you know what happened?  I totally didn’t get it.

It took me a week to grasp the idea of Pinterest as a repository of photos and collections of things people like.   My mom said it to me this way:  it’s an online version of all those magazines and recipes and samples in the corner of your bonus room that have been gathering dust because you haven’t figured out where to put them.  Ah. So it’s like online scrapbooking.  Ok, that gives me something to work with. It’s funny how social media can be difficult to described
